Competitive philosophy: Competitions give children who wait the entire year for one

recital more opportunities to perform. The experience fosters dedication, perseverance and

social interaction, and prepares dancers for adult professionalism.

Keeping a positive attitude: Students must sign contracts that state they will treat themselves,their families, and teachers with respect and care. It also says that if grades in school drop, the dancer must withdraw until they improve, so dancers stay focused on education.

The studio also holds group meetings to discuss sportsmanship, hard work, and selfimage.

Finding balance: To add some balance to the competitive side, dancers also take part in

various outreach programs like ChemoHealth, which raises money for patients undergoing

chemotherapy; Schulke is a cancer survivor herself.
